CHANTILLY, Va., Jan. 23, 2014 – NMR Consulting is pleased to announce that its president and CEO, David Garcia, was appointed to a two-year term on the Virginia Workforce Council (VWC).
The Virginia Workforce Council is a business-led board that acts as the principal advisor to the Governor and provides strategic leadership to the state regarding the workforce development system and its efforts to create a strong workforce aligned with employer needs. The VWC is also charged with serving as the State Board for the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), setting policy and standards for the local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) and One Stop Centers. Legislation passed in the General Assembly and signed by the Governor last year (HB2154/SB1177) expands the role of the Council to include providing recommendations on policy, plans, and procedures for secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs as well as other workforce programs. This also includes a review of the annual budgets for agencies conducting federal and state-funded career, technical, adult education, and workforce development programs.
“To ensure the workforce system is focused on developing a labor pool that meets the needs of the private sector, we rely on council members that bring expertise, passion and commitment to our mission,” said Danny Vargas, chairman of the Virginia Workforce Council. He continued, “As a business-owner and employer in an industry vital to Virginia and as a veteran who has demonstrated a devotion for helping our service-members find jobs when they come home, I was honored to recommend David to the Council. I am confident that his background, spirit and wisdom will serve the Council and the citizens of Virginia well.”
“It is an honor to be a part of the Virginia Workforce Council,” said NMR Consulting President and CEO David Garcia. “Virginia is a great place to live and do business. We have the largest concentration of high-tech workers in the country, and a diverse economy, strong in bioscience, logistics, manufacturing and technology. It will be extremely rewarding to help connect local businesses with Virginia’s highly skilled workforce and assist individuals as they prepare to meet the needs of current and future job markets.”
In 2012, 1,186,027 Virginia Workforce Development system participants were served through the system’s programs.
