NMR Consulting Defense Health Services Systems (DHSS) Project Receives Award for Excellence

Award Commends Exceptional Collaboration

ABERDEEN, Md., Nov. 20, 2014 – NMR Consulting, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), is proud to announce that its Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC) team was awarded the Agile Certificate of Appreciation by our customer, the Defense Health Services Systems (DHSS). The certificate, commending the team for its exceptional collaboration and outstanding leadership, is the team’s second award for excellence in its Agile transformation.

“We are proud of our team,” said Lou Estrada, technical program manager for the DOEHRS-HC contract. “We were able to work closely with our government counterparts to implement a highly collaborative process and truly embody the Agile Principles.”

This ability to ensure team members work in collaboration with one another exemplifies Agile Principle 4, which says, “Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the project.” With more traditional, documentation-heavy methodologies, there are many barriers to obtaining relevant project information in a timely manner. Oftentimes, by the time the process’ reviews and approvals are satisfied, the information is stale, making it difficult to adapt to change and deliver valuable solutions. The team overcame these challenges by facilitating open communication and transparency along with supporting tools, leading to high levels of trust and participation among stakeholders.

The first Agile certificate was awarded to the team in May 2014, and acknowledged the successful completion of their first Agile sprint despite external issues and risks that were impeding progress. The team proposed processes, techniques, and tools to help overcome these issues such as a distributed stakeholder community, competing priorities, and dependence on some process that have not yet completed their agile transition. Identifying these issues and having a plan to mitigate them allowed the team to secure a smooth transition and a successful first sprint.

“We look forward to what our DOEHRS-HC team will do next,” said NMR Consulting Vice President Dave Jones. “They routinely go above and beyond to deliver a superior product to our customer; I know they will continue their Agile transformation with great success.”
